Automatically add Google Meet to Google Calendar events
I usually have my virtual meetings over Google Meet. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to click the “Add Google Meet” button in Google Calendar when scheduling meetings. Then it’s often a scramble to agree on a meet link before the meeting starts. The public instance of Google Calendar has a setting to automatically add Google Meet to events you create (under Settings > General > Event Settings): Unfortunately, if you’re on a Google Workspace account, your administrator can remove this setting.

Hosting my own Mastodon instance
Here are a few thoughts about self-hosting my own Mastodon instance, why I do it, how I do it, and how it is going. Spoiler: It’s not hard, and I like it so far. (After saying that, I’ll probably soon run into hard issues 😀) Why did I want to host my own instance? There isn’t actually a strong reason. Part of it was just the nerd in me wanting to try it out, but then it also seemed to be an answer to my choose-the-right-instance conundrum.

jQuery Chrome Extensions
This blog post has been imported from my old Blogger blog. It is more than 10 years old and likely horribly out of date. I have not updated the content nor fixed any broken links. Today I wanted to learn how to write an extension for Google Chrome. The Chrome extension system is not yet released, but there is alpha support for developing extensions. A HOWTO describes what you need to do.

Embedding cover images in MP3 files for Android, iTunes, iPhone, Windows Media Player, and Windows Explorer
This blog post has been imported from my old Blogger blog. It is more than 10 years old and likely horribly out of date. I have not updated the content nor fixed any broken links. This is the continuation of a short series of blog postings about how I tag my MP3 files. Today I’ll share my experience in displaying cover art in various media players. I am using two portable players: An Android phone and an iPhone.

How to tag MP3 files for Android, iTunes, iPhone, and Windows Explorer
This blog post has been imported from my old Blogger blog. It is more than 10 years old and likely horribly out of date. I have not updated the content nor fixed any broken links. Being a proud owner of a brand-new Android phone and having a couple of weeks of vacation over the holidays, I decided that this is the perfect time to reorganize my digital music collection and to rip the last few CDs for which I had not had the time before.

View Android Source Code in Eclipse
This blog post has been imported from my old Blogger blog. It is more than 10 years old and likely horribly out of date. I have not updated the content nor fixed any broken links. Recently, I have been hacking around with Android a lot, and I think it’s awesome. Unfortunately, the Android SDK does not come with source code, and sometimes the docs are not so great, yet. Being an open source project, the Android sources are available online, but they are not very easy to access from Eclipse.
